Dad's Birthday weekend part 1

These 2 sneaky girls came to spend dads 60th birthday weekend with him.  I must say that all of our  children... Erin included would have loved to have come home this weekend. Matt and Russ just couldn't make it happen with their work schedules and families... and dear Emily with her flight ticket in hand threw out her back and couldn't move for 4-5 days.  She was so beside herself that she wouldn't even call us or answer our calls the first few days because she didn't want to hear how much fun we were having.  I love all you kids and want you to know that dad and I  would  have loved to have had every one of you sleeping side by side like sardines here in our family room this past weekend too. The short version of the story is that Jani brewed this idea to come and surprise dad.  Christy jumped on the band wagon... and those two bought tickets together. We kept it a secret from dad for almost 21/2 months ..... which was a BIG DEAL.... but Scott and I were determined to keep it quiet.... all the kids did too... even Erin knew and didn't say anything.  So the night they flew in, Scott faked going to the gym late Thursday evening.  Dad and I sat and watched the Olympics waiting for Scott to come back from the gym and join us.  At one point, around midnight, dad said hey where is he???  Well, he was secretly picking up the girls at the airport.
He tiptoes them up the garage stairs and into the loft, and he came in and said... dad come here and look at something in the garage.  Dad said, oh son can I see it tomorrow?  and Scott said no come and look at this now ... So dad rolled his eyes at me and went out and as soon as he went down the garage steps the girls snuck into the house and came and sat on the couch.  I ran into the kitchen because I had secretly made sweet rolls and hid them to rise in the oven and so I quickly took them out and preheated the oven..... anyway, Scott took dad down to the crawl space and said... do you hear water dripping. ... and dad said, yes, it always sounds dripping down here..... so they came back in and dad came in and stood there and looked at the girls sitting there on the couch... just staring at them in a sort of stooper.... they started singing Happy Birthday to you and he just stood there.... then it registered who it was sitting there and he said... hey what are you guys doing here?

dad went out to the garage and found our double cot and mattress pad to fit it and made the girls a bed right there in the piano room. don't they look comfy???

Scott was betting that this set up was probably more comfortable that his bed upstairs... we was trying to do a trade with them.... they said no way!

 Friday morning.  just visiting

those girls decided to do dads exercises with him.
His 10 minute workout

they laughed all the way through it

We grabbed lunch at Taco Bell

We took a little drive ... those 3 clowning around in the back seat

We made homemade pizzas and it's totally my fault Christy..... we each made our own pizza in a round cake pan. and I was turning Christy's out and over and all the toppings fell off and when we all tried to help and fix it ... it just turned into a pile of dough with some sausage and pepperoni and blobs of cheese here and there.... one more time.... I'm sorry Christy really I am  :)

after dinner we all went for our evening walk

We stayed up almost all night visiting that second night.... til almost 5am...  why didn't we take more pictures ??

the next day we went to a matinée to see the new movie Jack Ryan.... which we loved!

Dad showed Jani the boat all wrapped up tight for the winter out back
